Advanced Opportunities

“Advanced opportunities” is a State sponsored program where each student in grades 7-12 have
access to $4,125.00 to pay for online high school and college/university courses. Please speak with
the counselor to understand the criteria to participate in the program and consequences of failing
             courses using “Advanced Opportunities” money.

Dual/Concurrent Enrollment is a collaborative partnership between Idaho’s colleges and universities
to provide college courses for high school students giving them the option to earn both high school
and college credit. The classes are offered at the partner high schools with approved high school
instructors. Students receive a letter grade based on work completed, and the earned credits are
reflected on both their high school and college transcript.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level courses that prepare students through advanced
and rigorous curriculum. Students take an AP exam and receive a score between 0-5. Depending on
the score, a college/university may waive a requirement or grant credit for a parallel course. In most
cases, a score of 3 is considered to be a passing score; in more competitive circumstances (i.e. ivy
league or private schools), students must earn a 4 or 5.

There are many opportunities to take dual credit and Advanced Placement courses at Snake River
High School. Some classes are taught by teachers at SRHS, many classes can be taken through IDLA.
You may also take classes from our local colleges (ISU, CEI and BYUI’s Concurrent Program). You may
click on the links below this table to go to the college to see available classes. You must apply to the
colleges first(under their early college or high school portal) in order to get college credit. Students
must meet prerequisites to enroll in dual credit or AP course offerings.
