Snake River Orchestra

Welcome to the Snake River District Orchestra!

Snake River Students have the opportunity to join orchestra beginning in 5th grade and continue through High school.
During the beginning days of 5th grade, students are given the opportunity to choose to join orchestra, band or choir.
The orchestra, or strings class, offers instruction in violin, viola, cello and upright string bass.  The district owns several instruments and students are allowed to pay a modest rental fee to the school for use of an instrument during the year.

6th Grade students continue in their own strings’ class.  Students are also able to join as beginning students, but must work hard to catch up with the students who began in fifth grade. Fifth and Sixth grade students perform two concerts each year.

Grades 7 and 8 are combined at the Snake River Jr. High School. Grades 9 – 12 are combined at the High School.

Orchestra students participate in community concerts, High School and Middle School District V music clinics and festivals and the district and state solo/ensemble festivals.  They are also eligible to audition for All State Orchestra and the All Northwest Honor Orchestra.  In addition, the orchestra tries to have professionals from ISU and BUYI come and work with the students each year.

Mrs. Colleen Winder is the orchestra teacher for grades 5-12.  She holds a BS degree from BYU and received her k-12 music endorsement after additional classes from ISU.  She may be contacted through email: windcoll@snakeriver.org or through any of the schools.

Students are also able to participate with the Snake River Community Orchestra and receive high school credit. The community orchestra is currently under the direction of Arlene Osborn and meets in the Snake River High School music (band) room on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. This orchestra is open to all students and adults who play on a basic high school level. The fall season begins the 2nd week in September with a concert the beginning of December.  The Spring season begins the 2nd week in January and performs a concert the end of April.  For more information call Arlene Osborn: 785 6703.
